Mission Statement: At the Saybrook Point Inn we are committed to incorporating positive environmental choices whenever possible in all of our business decisions while providing an outstanding guest experience.
We are making great strides towards incorporating this philosophy into all aspects of our business. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
Saybrook Point Inn & Spa Green Initiatives
1. Guest room recycling and conservation programs.
2. Office recycling:
- Recycled paper for hotel stationery.
- Internal and personal communications are printed on both sides of paper.
- Scrap paper is used for internal and personal communications.
3.Recycled paper products in all public areas and guest rooms
4. Indoor and outdoor salt water pools reduce chlorine waste and fumes, and benefit swimmers.
5. Water waste is disinfected by ultraviolet light, not chlorine.
6. Rain sensors reduce unnecessary lawn watering.
7. Energy efficient windows and doors property-wide.
8. Energy-efficient, chemical-free cooling tower.
9. Energy efficient thermostats are used throughout the property.
10. Green Seal cleaning concentrates are used.
11. Eliminated the use of paper and Styrofoam products in employee and kitchen areas.
12. Smoke-free environment.
13. Partner with Soil Air Technologies to remove nitrogen from our onsite waste water-disposal system.
14. Heat-recovery systems that preheat hot water for domestic and pool use.
15. Tier Two standby generator that gives complete power independence from outages, reducing grid demands during power emergencies.
16. Partner with CT Audubon to enhance our surrounding area with bird houses -- to attract native birds and maintain our grounds with organic fertilizers.

Awards & Recognition
1. ENERGY STAR -- Awarded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the ENERGY STAR is the mark of superior energy performance and identifies your building as one of the most efficient buildings in the nation. First full-service hotel in Connecticut to receive this prestigious award.
2. Four-time recipient of the Clean Mariana Award - The first Connecticut hotel to receive the award (in 2003).
3. Circle Awards from the CT Department of Environmental Protection, for the following:
- Installing water-recycling laundry equipment with ozone, to reduce hot water, water soap, bleach, and propane gas usage.
- Improving effluent quality being discharged into the septic system.
- Installing a 100% recycled process or cooling water system and reducing annual energy or water consumption rates by more than 15%.
- Installing 90 energy-saving programmable thermostats.
- Executing changes that reduced annual energy or water consumption rates by more than 15%, including the purchase of water-efficient toilets for guestrooms and public areas as well as water-efficient dishwashers.
4. 1998 -- Enhanced and preserved the Saybrook Point waterfront area by creating walkways along the water that can be accessed by the general public. The walkways also preserve and stabilize the water's edge and shore areas.
5. 1999 -- Purchased water-efficient toilets for guestrooms and public areas as well as water-efficient dishwashers. Even with a 4.3% increase in guestroom occupancy rates and a 5.2% increase in meals served, Saybrook Point Inn still realized more than a 15% reduction in water usage due to its conservation practices.
6. 2001 -- Installed a 100% recycled process of cooling water system and reduced annual energy or water consumption rates by more than 15%.
7. 2002 -- Installed water recycling laundry equipment with ozone to reduce hot water, water soap, bleach, and propane gas usage.
